On the Market: A new chapter for a classic Georgian in Kalorama

The secret to Georgian architecture’s timeless appeal is in its symmetry and sense of proportion. Expansive windows bordering a centered front door with columned portico suggest gracious, well-lit interiors adorned with restraint and style. That aesthetic lives on in The Cooper, a 19th century Georgian mansion-turned bed-and-breakfast and now boutique condominium complex located at 2007 Wyoming Ave NW in Kalorama.

Recently restored and modernized by Potomac Construction, it features such bespoke and period-faithful details. Those details include custom crown and wall molding, iron-brushed white oak flooring laid in a herringbone pattern, and original windows complemented by high-design kitchens, baths, finishes and smart-home tech.

The Cooper comprises seventeen unique condominium apartments (15 in the main house and two carriage houses) with prices ranging from $459,000 to $799,000. No two floor plans are alike.

Home 8, on the main floor of the three-story building, is a master class in maximizing space and style. At 450 square feet, it is one of the smaller units but the oversized south-facing windows and 11’ ceilings make it seem far larger than it actually is. Indeed, it’s on the market for $519,000 with a monthly condo fee of $163 (that includes gas and water).

Moreover, the apartment opens into the living space and dining space. On the far wall is a sleek kitchen with white thermofoil cabinetry up all the way to the ceiling, white quartz counters and backsplash and undermount sink with Grohe faucet. Miele appliances, some concealed, include a microwave, wall oven, dishwasher, four-burner gas cooktop, vented hood and Blomberg refrigerator/freezer.

Furthermore, paneled pocket doors reveal the single bedroom, large enough for a queen-sized bed. A deep walk in closet houses a stacked Electrolux washer and dryer. An en-suite bath features a grey marble radiant-heated floor, white single sink vanity, Duravit commode and frameless glass door shower with herringbone-patterned marble tile flooring.

Up the main staircase (there is no elevator in the building) to the second floor is Home 11, a one-bedroom, one-and-a half bath unit, with 550 square feet of living space. There is a half-bath off the main entryway and a wide private terrace with IPE wood decking off the living/kitchen space. The bedroom enjoys a large walk-in closet and luxe en-suite bath with an oval accent window. It lists for $599,000 with a $232/month condo fee.

On the top floor is Home 15, a one bedroom, one-and-a-half bath duplex. At 700 square feet on two floors, it boasts a more prominent kitchen with an island and such distinctive features as a pitched ceiling, dormer windows and, in the loft bedroom, a glass half wall overlooking the main living space. It is on the market for $599,000 with a monthly condo fee of $286.

A carriage house, Home 17, is still under construction but will offer buyers a detached-home feeling with an enclosed patio, multiple windows and open living space with vaulted ceiling and L-shaped kitchen. The 700 square foot one-bedroom, one-bath home will list for $599,000 ($286 monthly condo fee).

The Cooper’s exterior has been reinvigorated with new plantings and hardscaping. Three parking spaces are also available at $40,000/each. And “bespoke” is not just an empty phrase here. In addition, the builder is open to tailoring apartments to buyer requests.

The complex is located in Kalorama, a serene and elegant neighborhood that’s known for it Beaux Arts architecture and is home to numerous embassies and bold-faced Washingtonians. It is within walking distance to the retail and restaurant attractions on Connecticut Avenue, Dupont Circle, and Woodley Park. It’s close to two Red Line Metro stations (Dupont Circle and Woodley Park-Zoo-Adams Morgan) and connects to several bus lines.

The Cooper, the new boutique condominium complex at 2007 Wyoming NW, is listed with CondoNest, a division of McWilliams Ballard. For details, contact Timur Loynab at (571) 215-6554 or [email protected]. For a visual tour, visit The Cooper DC or Youtube.
